My lovely dad, Wal Davies, died on August 12th, aged 89.

Dad was a gentle, smart, and incredibly silly man.

He was a jazz musician of extraordinary talent: from a teenager . . .

to his final years.

Dad loved the music deeply and unconditionally, as he loved so many things:

. . .me and my sister . . .

. . .his grandkids, Robyn and Louis, and especially his partner in crime, my Ma, to whom he was married for 56 years.

Dad was a complete original and we all loved him very dearly.
As you might imagine, I’ve been thinking a lot about Dad, and his long, creative life. But for now I’d just like to warmly thank the staff on the Lomond Ward at the Vale of Leven, who cared for him so thoughtfully in his final days. I am grateful to them, and I am also incredibly grateful for the fact that I was able to be with Dad – and his music – when he died: so many times, as I drove to and from the hospital, I thought of those of you with elderly parents who, during the Covid times, were denied this experience. Recent bereavement is not especially conducive to managing a business, but be assured that I am knitting.
