If you are in (or near) Edinburgh this Saturday, perhaps you’d like to come and hear me speak at Herriot-Watt’s TEDX event? The focus is “breaking barriers” and I’m going to be talking about brain injury, craft, and creativity alongside some other really interesting speakers. The event is at the Caledonian Hotel on the corner of Princes St / Lothian Road, and costs just £15. Tickets are available here . Perhaps I’ll see some of you there? If you can’t make it, the talk is being filmed, so I should be able to share it with you later.
Because you’ll want to know: the beautiful embroidered brain is the work of Chara Dimopoulou, and I feel immensely honoured to be able to feature it on the cover of my forthcoming memoir, Handywoman, which will be published this May. You can see more of Chara’s work in her Etsy store.

I began knitting as therapy for a traumatic brain
injury after being hit by a car. Somehow I have found
my way here. I’m still a very beginning knitter but I
love the feel of the fiber and needles in my hands.
Like others I look forward to watching your TED talk
As soon as it’s available! Thank you for sharing your
gifts!-
Welcome, Diana – and happy knitting!

I was searching through TED talks hoping to find your talk but wasn’t able to locate anything. Do you know if it is available to watch via the TED channel on youTUBE yet?

My best friend, Eileen, had a stroke in October and is undergoing heart surgery tomorrow to mend a hole in her heart. She was an avid knitter and spinner before the stroke. Please think of her and offer up healing thoughts and prayers for her. Thanks! I am looking for your TedX talk to share with her.
-
I’m sending Eileen my best wishes, Staci. I had the same operation to close the hole in my heart too.

Hoping to see the recording. Congrats!

I would love to hear your TedX talk – I so wish I could be there!! I had a major brain hemorrage in 2016 and learned how to knit after as my personal rehab. I am now an obsessive knitter which has been amazing for my recovery. Good luck!!!

Knitting is SO GOOD for neurological rehab! All the best to you, Linda! x

Surely would love to attend, but the distance from the US prevents it. Glad it’s going to be recorded! All the best!

How wonderful it would be to hear your talk. My husband had a stroke 5 years ago. Motor skills were fine but communication was affected. After many hours of therapy, he is doing fabulously. He still gets words and thought confused. The brain is one amazing organ.

Just got my ticket. So excited! Thank you so much for letting us know about this. I can’t make it to your book event at EYF so am delighted to have this opportunity instead. Hope it goes really well for you.

Oh how I wish I could be there for it, but Port Townsend, WA, US is just a bit far. However, I will await the link to it for later with pleasure. Cheers! xoxo Liz

Oh how I wish I could see you speak. Especially on the subject of brain injury. I, too, had a stroke at age 56 and had a lot of recovery time to do. Still don’t have very good balance (cerebellum). Knitting got me through. You are my hero.
