Lovely photos again. I have known only 3 people by the name of Hazel, the first an Australian lady my Mom’s age, then a Scottish girl, and the other an English girl who both came to Austalia when I was a teenager. (must be a popular name in your area of the world ;-)

I got so excited reading your post that I messed up the heel I was turning! (Managed to sort it now). Guess there’s some knitting and reading that can’t be done together! Amazing stuff though. Hope recovering doesn’t take too long

Speechless here in Alaska . . . oh How I would love to be in the company of that group. As I saw the photos the instructors or some one was showing . . . I had to ask how does one get there hands on that book. I assume it is the book at the in the last photo? Tell us more is it in print, where, when, how do I get a copy!

I spent a week in Shetland in 1998 and again in 2000. Your blog got me to thinking it is past time for another visit! Working with a friend on details for a small tour for 10-16 people from the States next May. We will also spend a week in my part of the country – Cornwall – after the week in Shetland.

Say hi to Hazel Tindall from Meredith the America. Three years ago I met her at the Fastest Knitter in the World contest and then again in Shetland at her house for a lesson in color. At the time I was writing a book on knitting (that didn’t fly) but I loved the afternoon I spent with Hazel seeing all her work. It was magical. And I now own a “woolly horse” of hers. A true honor to carry that back to America and use for blocking my first FI sweater. The people at Mamieson and Smith were kind enough to wrap that horse so that I could carry it on a plane. It looked a bit like a rifle, but when the airline check in person at Sheltland airport saw what it was, he didn’t bat an eye.

It looks like it was a truly wonderful week- am so glad you were able to be there to be part of it! I’ve been living moments of it vicariously via Mary Jane’s and Gudrun’s blogs so thank you for another view again. And I am intrigued by the Knit Real Shetland project above… I am aware of Oliver’s and J&S’s commitment to raising awareness of Shetland-raised Shetland yarn- is this a book highlighting that and the beauty of the yarn and knitting tradition? Lovely!!
