Bran & pals

I think the point at which one decides to get a third dog is when you admit to yourself that you really are a dog person.

Hello, I am BRAN!

. . . or perhaps that point is reached when the dogs outnumber the humans in one’s household?

either way, I am most definitely a dog person (living with another dog person).

. . . and am very happy to say that one of these wee guys will be joining Bruce, Bobby and Tom and Kate, the dog people, in a few weeks time.

Yes, it is I, BRAN. . .

His name is Bran, and Bran is, in fact Bobby’s brother (from another litter, and the same mother).

Like Bobby, Bran is spending his first few weeks on the farm, where his mum lives and works, and we’ve been able to spend quite a bit of time with him and his wee pals (an unarguably nice way to unwind).

Bran is growing up quite quickly now, and we are all really looking forward to bringing him home!

I’m sure Bran will introduce himself properly, and have things to say to you in due course. . . .

See you soon, love BRAN! x

Oh totally missed this post, how wonderful for you all to get a new little companion soon.

We got our first dog, Fergus (Flatcoated Retriever) 12 weeks ago and it has been quite the ride. puppies are so sweet, lovely, playful, chaotic, exhausting (haha) and so much more.

It’s been a steep learning curve for all of us but once we started to understand each other better it became clear that Fergus was absolutely the right choice for us and we hope he’ll live a long, and hopefully, happy life with us.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures when Bran arrives!

  2. I’m in love.

  3. Oh, what an adorable pup! Congratulations and I can’t wait to hear more about your adventures with your three musketeers. We have two here, but I think that’s where we’ll stop. At least until our 1 1/2 year old whirling dervish settles into a less challenging phase of her life. Her 3 year-old brother is hoping she takes up competitive napping soon instead of constant zooming.

Bran is stealing my heart!! What a wonderful addition to your family! And Tom’s photos, as always, are exquisite! So happy for you…stay well and be safe

  5. Bran is literally a little bundle of cuteness overloaded 😍🥰

Oh my! What a cuteness overload. Our wee Archie is awaiting the arrival any day now of his first offspring. We are humming and hawing about whether or not to keep one. You may just have decided us!

  7. My goodness, what a handsome boy! He is a heartbreaker :) Can’t wait to hear from him and your other two about all their adventures!

I bet you will get a fourth. Between you, you and Tom have four hands – so one leash per hand. Basic maths!

  9. Sending big dog breath kisses from the 3 x border terriers and kitten at our house!

  10. How wonderful. I have a black Labrador called Dottie, she was Little Dot because she was the runt of the litter and it was touch and go whether she would survive. She’s now a healthy 38kgs and 3 years old. Labs are the best, so funny.

OMG just look at those eyes! We got ours from the pound and it took all my will to only bring home the one. It was one with ‘crooked’ legs due to poor nutrition which my cousin said, “It needs you!” (The legs did straighten out.) She now sleeps with us on the bed at 75+pounds because my husband decided she could/should…who has the weak will? :) Love your kiddos.

Congratulations! We have 5 adult dogs plus a baby puppy who most likely will not be staying. No doubt it is a LOT of work, but so much fun!

  13. That is a lot of dog! Congratulations on your new addition. Since we’ve reached our limit on kids, I keep thinking about getting a smallish sled dog… just waiting for the right dog to make the leap I guess!

  14. You are in SUCH TROUBLE now, Kate and Tom. Three charmers. We only got over 200 pounds of dog for about six months (the third dog was borrowed while friends needed a place to stash her). But it was great fun. Looking forward to hearing from all five of you.

He is adorable, just seeing is little face made me smile. Looking forward to hearing from Bran in the future when he comes to live in his new home – exciting times ahead for your all.

    Absolutely adorable. I look forward to Bran’s posts (and Bruce’s and Bobby’s reactions . . .)

  17. OOOOHHHHH not just a 3-dog household, a 3-black-Labrador household!! We were a four-dog, three-cat household at one stage (when we had a large garden). Now, due to old age of the companions (and no more appropriate garden space), we are a one-dog, two cat household.

Black labs are the best! Have fun with little Bran, looking forward to the introduction! And cuddles for Bobby and Bruce.

I’ve always vowed to have no more dogs than I have hands to hold leashes, but I have to admit that I find that resolution wavering quite often. And, that puppy face has me weak at the knees….

OMG, what a fabulous post. Bran, great name and oh ‘poor’ Bobby!!! Congratulations from another dog person.

  20. So cute! Great photos — thanks for posting.

  21. Oh soooo cute! I love how you kept the B tradition going. Look forward to hearing about his and their escapades. Linda x

So loved reading this today, more so because I had to say goodbye to my beloved Wynston (Shih tzu) two days ago. He had been ill for a month, but wasn’t getting better despite the vet’s and my best efforts, so the hard decision was made. Tough week…
Dog’s are such wonderful companions, aren’t they, and just like us, all different in personality. It’s such a fascinating journey, watching them grow and develop. But don’t they give to us much more than we could ever give to them?
Congratulations on the soon-to-be new family addition, that’s very exciting! Your lives will be ever more enriched having him in it xx

    1. so sorry for your loss Joanna – a tough time for you. Sending hugs and wags.

How wonderful he is super.I did have another puppy but sadly it was 11 years ago time I thought about another one maybe?

  24. P.S. Evelyn, an older neighbor just went through the same thing. She felt she could not provide enough stimulation and exercise for a puppy, but she felt very lonely without a dog in her life. Somehow, she found a nearby younger neighbor who wanted a puppy but couldn’t afford one. She helped them pay for theirs in exchange for regular playdates for her dog. Perhaps there is a way for you after all?

What a lovely idea. I shall bear it in mind when that time comes for me!

    2. Evelyn Avatar

Great idea! Thanks for the suggestion.

  25. Yahoo, Kate and Tom–congratulations! The puppy pics are fantastic–what personality he has already!

For those who mentioned you are thinking of getting a dog, I recommend NOW! I have been a teacher for many years, and I believe strongly that no child should have to go through middle school dog-less. It’s cruel and unnecessary to do that to a child if you can possibly help it.

Hmmm. . . Is it possible I, too, am a dog person?

Congratulations from another family of three Labradors. Our newest sweetheart, Finnegan, joined us in February at 8 weeks. He joins our Fergus, 3 years, and our 13 year old chocolate Nauset. They are all irresistible and bring me much happiness. Excellent for getting one out and walking. Enjoy all your furry children.

Welcome Bran! I am so excited for your new family. I too am a dog ,and cat lover(2 dogs and at this time just 1 cat.) as are my friends and relatives. One of my dear friends, (who is also a yarn dyer ) has 3 Labs and I love going to the studio to help her…first thing I do is plop down on the floor and I am encased in a lively, happy dog mash up! Being short I love that the let me pet them with my bare feet as I am working …then it is home for my fur-faces to sniff out where I have been. Can’t imagine a life without Dogs and Yarn!

Just lost my dear black lab, Sophie, who was 13 years old. I’m now too old to train another puppy so I will follow your journey with Bran, Bobby and Bruce with a lump in my throat. Thanks for sharing.

    1. so sorry to hear of your loss, Evelyn. Sending a hug (and wags)

    Congratulations to you all!

J and I just coo’ed over your baby pics.
I am sure Bran will be an excellent addition to the household. More Schmackos needed!

I can imagine Bruce (poor old boy) being eyes wide with a moment of horror going, ‘Not another one!’
Bobby will be bouncy as hell and possibly trample poor Bran with excitement.
Give them a week though and the pack will have settled in new hound happiness.

He is beautiful. Have you told Bruce yet? Be interesting to see what Bob thinks of the chewing times! And whether he is a banana or potato boy? Our postman’s black lab is addicted to carrots.
