Hiya, it is I, Bruce

it is I, Bruce

Today I am here to tell you about the thing known as PHOTOSHOOT, which, if you don’t know, is the given term for a distinctive human means of ruining a perfectly good WALK.

This is Kate wearing Jibbie, in Mooring and Faded Overalls

During PHOTOSHOOT there is not, in fact, much WALK at all, but an awful lot of standing still.

Kate stands still wearing a sweater or other woolly things. Tom stands still making noises with a camera. And of course, we dogs must join in, and stand still too. At some point, Tom is very likely to say “get out of the shot, Bruce” at which point one has to move elsewhere, and begin to stand still once again.

From a dog’s perspective, PHOTOSHOOT is very boring.

Photoshoot? YAWN!

But as I have been carefully teaching my young pal BOB, the best thing for a canny canine to do during PHOTOSHOOT is to do one’s level best to disrupt proceedings.

In PHOTOSHOOT disruption Plan A, one pretends to be a Very Good Dog, while continually bothering Kate . . .

Until she caves . . .

. . . and dispenses the inevitable SNACK.

But if PHOTOSHOOT continues, one must resort to plan B.

Plan B involves convincing Kate that the part you play in PHOTOSHOOT is, in fact, that of a leading character rather than a minor role.

When executing plan B, BOB’s method of stealing the limelight tends to be more forthright than that of yours truly.

I, for example, am a dog of far too much dignity to resort to the desperate measures of leaping about and shouting.

BOB’s not subtle, but with plan B he gets results!

PHOTOSHOOT ceases! WALK recommences! Hurrah for plan B! Hurrah for noisy BOB!

See you soon, love Bruce.

Um, thanks for the blog hijack, Bruce. Really, all I wanted to do was show everyone the new JIBBIE I’d knitted in Mooring and Faded Overalls.

Bruce, as always, you continue to be one of the best writers at KDD…. and you always get to the heart of the matter… Love your spirit… hugs, Susan

  7. Ah Bruce – it looks like you had fun!

  8. Oh Bruce! It really is most unfair of your humans to do photo shoots instead of walks. Don’t whatever you do let them start playing that funny game with a stick and a ball – the one they call “golf”. That really spoils a good walk! But that human looks good in the woolly thing!

I absolutely love the Bob and Bruce Photo bombs. They are my favourite part of the photoshoots.

I hope Kate has lots of schmacko’s in her bag/pocket for the treats. Bob and Bruce certainly deserve them. Bruce dear, I beieve you have started to have a grey muzzle. You must be slowly becoming a regal good old boy.

  11. Bruce, you are gorgeous and your person, Tom is quite a good photographer. Being a black dog person myself I know how hard it is to capture your beauty.

  12. Yes, ALL beautiful! Plan C is just the thing to speed things up! GO DOGS is right, I have a sign on my door that says: DOGS RULE :)

As someone without even a single dog that top photo is kinda heartbreaking. Why don’t I have a dog? I am an adult, I could get a dog.
    Lovely new Jibbie. x

  14. Love this! I have two labs myself, so I’m with you on this. Lovely photos, scenery and of your jumper is beautiful. Thank you for a lovely start to my day xxa

  15. Just the smile I needed this morning. I also very much love this colourway for Jibbie. Wonderful.

  16. Bruce, oh my! You with your softly whiskery magnificent jowls and gleaming eye…and Bob, equally handsome and playful….you have both stolen my heart!
XXX from Maya the dachshund. Oh, and by the way, my mom wants to make the Jibbie in just those colors!

  18. Bruce you beauty!! Your musings always brighten up my day. Beautiful jumper and photography too.

  19. Such a lovely post to start my day. MURRAY ( the Boston Terrier) says woof woof in approval of both plans or ANY plan that results in a snack!

  20. I’m smiling ear to ear. Delightful post, beautiful photographs, exciting new sweater. One small kibble–uh, QUIBBLE–with the photographs: there was one that was clearly focused on Kate and her sweater and the dogs were all blurry! ;-)

Hello Bruce so lovely to hear from you. I bet you never guessed during the chewing times that Bob would be such an asset! Do you guys like carrots my slave’s postman has a black lab who will do anything for carrots. Take care and look after Kate.

Kate do you ever wonder if the reason Bruce is so wise and calm is because he came to live with you when you were still vulnerable from your stroke and he knew he had to take care of you?
    Take care

  28. What a fabulous post, it brought a smile to my face. Beautiful dogs, beautiful knitwear, beautiful countryside and beautiful you too.

I love my Jibbie and have been wearing it all week. My dogs love walks with regular stops in them – in fact a walk without regular pauses are quite disappointing as far as they are concerned. They are very active seekers, and occasionally catchers, of small rodents, which they claim they need to supplement their diets.

  31. Best start of the day! 🤣🤣🤣

Hello Bruce. Your experience of photo shoot reminds me of going on photo expeditions with my Dad when I was a little girl. I never got a snack though!

  35. Merinda Avatar

Thank you Bruce . Please tell Tom, that the photos of Kate wearing woolly things are enhanced by including yourself and Bob. And remember you are there to “supervise “, Tom and Kate could not possible produce such wonderful knitwear and photos with out your input. Love Hettie and Dillie Dot (Mummy Merinda wrote this for us)

  37. A wonderful post to make me smile after a stressful week, thank you. What handsome boys Bruce and Bobby are, such shiny coats. And that sweater is gorgeous ,the yarn looks so soft and warm. Wherever you store your knits must be an absolute feast for the eyes!

  38. hI Bruce, have you thought of Plan C… both of you run off over the horizon and leave the photoshoot? I think that would break it up quickly? Have fun walking!

    1. If Bruce is anything like my Duke, the thought of being out of sight of his humans…isn’t a thought at all!

  39. Thanks for cheering up my Friday! Go dogs!
