Happy Friday! If you are a subscriber to the KDD shop newsletter then please check your inbox! I’ve released a new pattern today, and sent out a code enabling you to download it for free.

These jolly mittens offer a fresh burst of floral colour to cheer the end of January, and accompany the tam of the same name:

If you felt inclined (like me) to make yourself a matching set – after knitting the tam, you’ll only need an extra ball of shade C (Lochan) to whip up the mittens too.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Hello Kate,
Thank you for the lovely mittens pattern which I have just managed to download. Not a great feat you might say but it is for me as I’m getting on in years ( far too many) and it was a small personal triumph. I’ve spent the last year making patchwork quilts, I’ve made about 6 and am feeling a bit ‘ patchworked out’, though it has kept me busy and sane over this strange time.
However, I’ve now decided that it’s time to do something else and your lovely mittens pattern has spurred me on to take up my knitting needles again which haven’t been used for quite some time. I’m going to order and make the tam and then the mittens, either for my daughter or for me, depending how they turn out!
Love your blog and Tom’s beautiful photos of Scotland, always guaranteed to cheer one up.
From a very wet , cold, grey and bleak Geneva.
thanks for reading, Judith. Hope you enjoy your mittens!
Just lovely! Thank you so much!
Ha! I missed the free mitten part in the newsletter – but just went back to claim them. Thank you!
Such a lovely pattern. Thank you!
Small child of my acquaintance has just looked at the picture and, after a moment’s thought, said, “They are growing a flower out of their thumb bit too.”
I’m in the US and subscribe to your lovely blog, I never got the code for the mittens either!
Hi – the newsletter is completely separate from the blog. It covers releases and shop updates only (rather than the wide range of topics covered here) and is just sent out once a month.
Hello,
I subscribe to your lovely site and did not receive the mittens pattern. I live in Canada so maybe that is why??
I would love to knit the mittens!
Many thanks,
Dianne
Hi Diane,
the newsletter is separate from the blog – it is just a round up of new releases and shop updates that is sent out once a month. If you’d like to receive it, there’s a link to it in the blog sidebar ——>
Hi Kate, I thought I was subscribed to everything, but didn’t receive a link to the Green Shoots Mittens. :-(
I love your posts (including Tom, Bruce et.al, and guests). I always learn something. Thanks for your generosity in sharing with us around the world (specifically from way out west in Alberta Canada.)
All the best,
Laurel
Hi Laurel, you may not be signed up to the newsletter (separate from the blog), or it could be that, if you are signed up, the newsletters are going to your spam folder?
Hey there! Thanks for the note! I did eventually receive the Green Shoots Mittens! Can’t wait to finish a few things for Valentine’s Day so I can start on these! I just love KDD &Co. – the yarns, the stories, the pictures…it’s the highlight of my inbox. <3<3<3
thanks, Laurel – glad you got the pattern!
Thank you for a lovely pattern. Foxglove is a lovely thing to think about when winter fatigue begins. Although Digitalis is considered a biennial and is supposed to die out after the first summer it blooms, in my garden it comes back again and again. It self seeds, too.
The only constraint to its growth is that although it’s toxic to those of us with spinal cords, slugs munch on it happily as it emerges.
Thank you!! What a lovely surprise to find in my inbox of a Friday morning :)
What a lovely surprise, thank you. Another project to add to the (ever expanding) list! 😁
Thank you so much for sharing your new pattern. The mittens are wonderful.
Thank you so much for the beautiful pattern Kate! x
Thank you very much, they are so beautiful.
Thank you so much, Kate. The mittens are beautiful. I want so much to knit Sleeve Island. Waist length sweaters look best on me. But the two-color steek method is holding me back. Would you suggest a way to learn this method? I live in Alabama and there are no yarn shops within a couple hours. Thank you!
could you send us an email, Beth (info@katedaviesdesigns.com) – I wrote a piece for the last club about losing your fear of steeking, and would like to forward this (and some other resources) on to you.

Sorry. I think I misinterpreted how to respond. Thank you so much, in advance, for forwarding the conquering fear of steeking info. I’m so grateful. I’m missing out on a whole new art.

Thank you for the mitten pattern. I love it!
What a wonderful unexpected gift! And so delightful. I think these would be very fun to knit.
Thank you very much, Kate.
Thanks, Kate & Co! It was a delightful surprise to see these cheerful mittens offered in my email this dreary morning. I’ll have to rummage through my Milarrochy Tweed stash & pull some fun colors out for it.
Thank you to your team for the help over getting a paper copy of the Green Shoots Tam! Ravelry has been extremely
difficult to access lately!
The parcel of Milarrochy Tweed yarns arrived Tuesday! What uplifting colours! Here in Toronto, Ont. we have cold and
snow.
Made a swatch yesterday…….onward today.
enjoy knitting your Tam, Roberta!
Thank you, Kate—such lovely mittens—and something cheerful to brighten a January day!
Very nice stranded design. I appreciate that you are making it available without charge.
What a lovely, cheery present at the end of January. Thanks so much Kate, from sunny and very cold Ontario, Canada!
Thank you so very much for the lovely pattern! It has cheered up a cold day. Safely downloaded!
Thank you 🙏🏻 … my next Kd project is the Coofle
Thank you, Kate. That was a lovely surprise on a cold wet January day (particularly odd since I live in Australia). I will enjoy making these.
Hello Kate,
Thanks for this gorgeous pattern. To me too, it seems to be sold out. I have already signed up for your newsletter before.
What am I doing wrong here and what am I misunderstanding?
Thanks for your help from Good Old Germany.
Corinna
Hi Corinna, it’s not sold out – if you email us at info@katedaviesdesigns.com we can check whether you are signed up, and if not, sort things out for you
What a kind thought! Unfortunately the only way to download it is via Ravelry – no good for those of us unable or unwilling to use the site after their dreadful handling of accessibility issues. This surprises me considering the many and varied discussions on here about different abilities and accessibility and Kate’s personal interest in the subject.
Thank you for publishing my comment above – perhaps I can reframe it as a direct question. When will you offer an alternative to Ravelry for pattern purchases and downloads please?
A wide selection of our patterns (currently over 50) are available as direct downloads from the KDD shop
They’re lovely! Thank you Kate xxx
*waving* – thanks, Susie! x
I subscribed to the newsletter, but sadly, no mitten code.
Hi Ida, existing subscribers will have received it immediately – if you are a new subscriber this should come out to you within the next 48 hours
Happy Friday to You too,
How do I get this beautiful Mitten Pattern, seems to be sold out?
Thank You in advance,
Mette, Denmark
Hi Mette, they aren’t sold out – if you sign up for the newsletter (https://mailchi.mp/katedaviesdesigns/h7ax0816ie) and follow the instructions – you can download from Ravelry.
This is a wonderful cheery project. Color can be such a morale booster!
For some reason the Web shop won’t accept my email address.
Lovely mittens and tam xx
its not the webshop – you just need the newsletter? https://mailchi.mp/katedaviesdesigns/h7ax0816ie and then to download the pattern from Ravelry
Hi Kate, thank you but the link you sent still won’t accept my email address.
if you send us an email: info@katedaviesdesigns.com we can try to get to the bottom of what’s happening
Just sent an email 😊 Thank you
I love these mittens. I have ordered my mini needles and my flexible double pointed. I hope this is my knitting revolution, as I have been put of by normal DPNs.
Thank you very much for this nice present ! It’s really a pretty friday !
They’re beautiful Kate – thank you!
