Hello! We are currently enjoying a very quiet and relaxing winter break. In the absence of any socialising, this has largely involved good food, lots of films and books, knitting (me), creating digital soundscapes from ordinary household objects (Tom) and crisp long walks (both of us, plus dogs). After an extended period of hard work, and a year of no holidays or breaks, we are really appreciating having some space and time to just potter about and I’m definitely hoping for a bit more of this in 2021.

I really enjoy getting out and about at first light, and this morning Tom brought along his camera to capture the clear skies, chilly landscape, and a near-full moon sinking down below the horizon just before sunrise. Will you join us on our early morning moon walk?

Brrr! We’re almost home . . .
Time for a cup of tea!

  1. i wish i had enough walls for so many of tom’s photos (i am already the happy owner of one print). thankfully i can look at them again and again here. and all the knitting too….

  3. Beautiful photos! Great work

  4. You cannot argue with the loveliness of the moon. Much peace to you and Tom and the dogs under the morning moon xxx also, hurrah for creative processes which bring us to appreciate the sounds produced by everyday things in everyday spaces.

  5. Beautiful photos!

  6. Beautiful photos. I’ve never been up early enough or in the right location to see the mon set during darkness. I had a lovely view of the full moon rise a few days ago.

    I love Tom’s photography😍

  12. Loved seeing this. I took several chilly walks this week, and meanwhile, my friends were all saying it was too cold to be outside. I find it energizing!

And that moon! I was just putting my chickens to bed (closing the coop) the other night and the moon was rising straight ahead of me. Stunning! I am so glad to see some gorgeous photographs of that winter moonscape. Thank you both.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2021!

  13. So beautiful………. Wrap yourself in the comfort of familiar things. Cover yourself with kindness and calm days. Restore yourself ready for the inspiring, creative, exciting, unknowing days ahead and live your life to the full. Bless you both.

    Beautiful Happy New Year .

  15. Thank you for those lovely photos, so beautiful!
Funny, but we had a huge moon yesterday before sunset (I’m in Ottawa, Canada). I was out running errands, pulled over in the car, but couldn’t get a decent photo of it with my phone. The moon just appeared very small, but it reality it was huge, so I aborted the attempt to capture it, very disappointed. But these photos have definitely made up for that! Thanks!

I enjoyed the moon’s company this morning in California, after some days of clouds had deprived me of it. Golden and grand, much appreciated (despite a temperature of zero C at dawn!)

Best wishes for the new year to all at KDD!

  17. Thanks for sharing all those lovely pictures.

  18. Gorgeous! Thank you.

  19. YES, we also had fantastic moon views and now into SNOW and possible rain……..Wish Mom Nature would make up her mind!

We are also enjoying dog walks, reading, (me) knitting and (Lyndon) cycling and sleeping. Let’s hope this time next year we can spend it with friends and family.

Happy new moon and new year. Apparently it is called a ‘Cold Moon’ as it is the 13th of the year, which is a little unusual. Still quite mild, but misty down here in the Fens. Loving Tom’s pictures and enjoying hills by proxy. Much love.

We are so lucky to have had some spectacular moons/sunsets/sunrises in the last few days in Scotland. You have inspired me to make more of an effort to get up early enough to see the moon set and the sun rise!

  28. Thank you for these wonderful pictures…we have had lovely moon views too (New Hampshire). It’s fun to think we are walking under the same moon…I miss Scotland! My yummy yarn arrived yesterday so I have two fabulous projects to start!! Thank you so much for all you do!! Happy 2021.

We have a carol, local to Yorkshire:
    “Hail, smiling morn,
that tips the hills with gold,
whose rosy fingers ope’ the gates of day.”
It’s often sung lustily to brass band accompaniment, (though not at dawn).
Your description and images put me in mind of it.

  32. What lovely pictures of peace and beauty at this very difficult time. Thank you both for all you do to give us times of mindfulness and difference in these worrying days
