If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have probably picked up on our exciting news

We are getting a puppy!

We have named him BOBBY.

A few of you may remember that, when I fell down and had my stroke, I was found lying on the cycle path by a dog and his owner who were out running that morning. The man turned out to be a doctor, who got me straight to hospital, and the dog was a lovely black spaniel, named Bobby.

So that’s how this Bobby got his name.

Bobby is a very sweet and loveable wee character. We have been lucky enough to be able to spend a bit of time with him at the farm where he was born.

It is fair to say Tom and I are both a bit besotted. He’s got such a gentle nature and is already a lovely dog.

I am sure he and Bruce (to whom Bobby is distantly related) are going to get on famously.

And in all likelihood get up to all kinds of mischief!

Tom has taken quite a few photos of Bobby and his sisters. I’m sure you won’t mind seeing a few more . . .

We are really looking forward to bringing Bobby home in a week or so, and beginning some full-on puppy training!
Have a lovely weekend, everyone x

Stop it. You’re killing me here (in my dogless home).
Such sweet photos!
So excited for you Kate. May Bobby keep his chocolate smell for a few months yet for you to savour when snuggling him. He looks adorable, and he has some growing to do if he is to fit into those enormous paws of his.
That face! Especially in the photo with the tennis ball on the floor….
Congratulations to all of you, and what a wonderful way to honor the man and dog who helped you.
Bobby is adorable! I got my black lab as a rescue and always imagine what he looked like as a puppy – I think he was just like Bobby.
Also, extra kudos to Tom for the great photos. I find it incredibly difficult to photograph my all black baby well.
How absolutely precious! Of course, you’ll have to hide your knitting when he’s awake – such fun to unravel knitted work and run around with balls of wool – what puppy could resist!!
Congrats on the new puppy :) im sorry but ive been trying to follow you on Instagram for ages, but i cant. I used to and then one day you vanished off my feed and now i cant even get to you account :( not sure why :(
Looking forward to that first, “It is I, Bobby,” post! (Or perhaps, “It is we,,…”)
Congratulations to all!
Lovely Bobby!! and the pictures….!! congrats….please do post pictures of your beauties always!!
Oh, those beautiful adoring eyes ! Have fun with Bruce, Kate and Tom , little one 🤗
Oh the cuteness! I’ve been looking forward to a post full of Bobby pictures ever since you posted him on Instagram. He’s so sweet looking. Now I’ll be looking forward to pictures of him and Bruce. Thanks so much for sharing.
Kate, Just reading Knitting Comfortably- The Ergonomics of Handknitting by Carson Demers.
He is a physical therapist, ergonomist, and master knitter. The book covers ways to prevent and recover from knitting injuries. Don’t know if you have come across it. I found it at my local library . Take care and enjoy the countdown to Bobby and the puppy proofing!
Karen
What wonderful memories Bobby brings to me. My Grand Dog, Cash, just left this world after 12 wonderful years. He was a cute lab puppy just like Bobby and loved to carry around sticks which were larger than him.
Congratulations!
Bobby like Bruce over flows with sweetness. I bet they will be great pals.
Enjoy…
I love the reason for picking his name. Perfect.
Oh my – I meant to respond this morning, but the day has been crazy busy. These little darlings are so darn appealing! showed the post the my DH and his immediate response was “Oh my god, a herd of cuteness!” That about sums it up for me, too. Well, Tom & Kate, you have an interesting summer ahead of you for sure — one that will be full of all sorts of doggie silliness and doggie messes and general wonderfulness! Have fun!
Can’t wait for Bobby & Bruce to take over your Instagram account when you least expect it! Congratulations on the new baby dog !!
There’s nothing like a puppy joining the family. Congratulations – what joy !
I hope that Bruce will not feel displaced-gorgeous puppies!
What wonders that the heart always has room for more to love. Thanks for sharing the warmth and making me smile.
I so miss our 3 black lab mixes. Thank you for sharing. Makes my heart go still and my eyes well up.
These are wonderful pictures! I hope you all make one of Tom’s photo books about Bobby and Bruce, it would be fantastic.
Oh, those photos made my day, what a lovely pup! I can’t wait to read of his adventures.
Oh, the unbearable cuteness!
I can just see it now. Yarn? Yarn? What yarn? As Bruce and Bobby run out of the house with balls of yarn! It’s playtime! What fun for all of you!
So wonderful! Bobby has a kind and thoughtful face.
He is such a beautiful puppy. Im sure hell have a great life with you all xxx
So very sweet! Tom takes wonderful photos. But, don’t you think one of Bobby’s sisters should come along too? That would really keep Bruce busy! What if Bobby misses them? Looking forward to many more puppy photos!
Oh Kate Bobby looks adorable.
Great photos.
Bruce and Bobby. Plenty of fun ahead.
Oh the photos! Tom has captured his character perfectly, no mean feat with a gang of puppies. Well done :)
A very photogenic pup!
He is adorable, as are all his siblings! So much looking forward to seeing future posts from Bruce and Bobby :)
Bobby is just adorable, he will definitely bring a new lease of life to Bruce and they will become the greatest of friends.
Congratulations on your new pup! And I second everybody who says there is no such thing as too many puppy pictures.
There’s no such thing as “too many puppy pictures”! Adorable!
I have black labs too…and cats…they make life perfect 🌞
Those puppies are so adorable!! We just lost our black lab mix a little over 2 weeks ago. The wound is raw but these adorable puppies made me smile. Enjoy! I can’t wait for Bruce’s next blog post.
Thank you so much for your story! I follow you on instagram also and am very inspired by your recovery, your awesome knitting and the beautiful photos. We have a doggie who is now three. We love her to bits. She was our wedding present to each other which was the best as she forces us to get up, go out and spend time walking together. She is wonderful!
Have fun with Bobby! I look forward to more photos!
Oh my! How sweet Bobby is… All of them are adorable. Can’t wait until he and Bruce get on… Very happy for you and for Bobby.
Ahhhhh, just lovely. What a lucky little guy !
I think lab puppies are the best of all puppies they are so wiggly and loving. I am a greyhound kind of girl myself (3 rehomed) and so never went thru the puppy stage but growing up had a lab x who had 2 litters and they were so much fun. Enjoy Bobby in his puppyhood and am sure he will be you years of fun and happiness.
Who could resist those beautiful kind eyes. Nothing like having a puppy in the house. I have 3 dogs, the youngest now 9 months old and she brings so much joy and love to our house. Lovely memories with your great photos.
FULL ON SWEETNESS! Can’t wait to see Bruce’s reaction!!
What entrancing little beasties – they look like the richest black velvet. Heart melting to see photos of them galloping along with ears and tongues flapping! Will be waiting to see photos of Bruce and Bobby together.
Awe! We have always had labs: all colors! Currently we have a three year old male, named Finnegan. Bobby will be a great mate to Bruce. Puppies are wonderful!
Sandy
So you’re going to be running a B & B (Bobby and Bruce). It’s going to be so much fun! :)
I WANT ONE!!!!
We are being very well behaved and waiting until after we have visited relatives in October to get a dog after being without for around 20 years! Seeing that pack of Labrador fun makes me wish I could get one RIGHT NOW!
I hope Bruce loves his little brother. Bobby looks adorable.
Oh my goodness he is adorable. Wishing you all lots of fun and happy times.
Kate! I am delighted got hear that there is more precious-ness in your lives! Please post many pictures of Bobby and Bruce! And perhaps a post from Bruce on his new little brother?
Julie
Bobby is a sturdy, beautifully conformed boy! Bruce will make him smarter, and he’ll make Bruce younger. Congratulations.
Too much cuteness! I can hardly wait for Bruce’s first post about his new brother.
Gordon and I are thrilled to hear your news about the new addition to your family. Bobby looks gorgeous .He will have a good role model with having Bruce to learn from. I am sure they will both have great fun together. Kate, both you and Tom will now have both the delights and the ‘horrors’ a new puppy brings. Good luck with the training .
Your little Bobby will be great fun for Bruce, I just hope Bruce has many more years with you and Tom!
I get my new puppy Martha next Tuesday, I think Bobby looks like great fun and hope you have as much fun with him as I know I will have with my Martha (8weeks old today)!! I have been reading your blogs for ages and never add comments….until now!
Oh those pictures of Bobby held by each of you are beyond adorable….the utter joy/peace on his little face and in his eyes is plain to see…he knows he’s found his home! I am overjoyed for the three of you, to have a new fur-baby joining your midst.
Two and one half yrs ago unbenounced to my husband, I purchased a wee Border Terrier. (we never make a decision of such gravity without long discussions-but I felt I needed to do something for him post heart attack/surgery) It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. He has been the best medicine for my husband and brought us such continuing joy :)
Hearty congratulations!!!
Oh my heart, they are so beautiful! We have been looking for a puppy recently…a girl. Do you think any of the sisters are still available? I would happily fly over (from Canada) to bring her home! I absolutley adore Bruce, and know that we will all love Bobby as much. Looking forward to the adventures and tales. Love and light to your and your family. xx p.s. There can never be too many puppy photographs!
Adorbs! Enjoy puppyhood. It goes by so fast!
GAH!!! Snuggling puppies are the best!
How exciting for you all! Bruce will show Bobby the ropes and think of how much fun it will be watching the both of them. I look forward to future pictures!
Bobby is so absolutely adorable! And they have the silkiest coat, you just want to snuggle with them 24/7! Congratulations 🎊 !
What a lot of fun and love you both have to look forward to
This is such a beautiful breed. We lost our yellow Lab Butch a year ago and your post brought back all of the good memories of life with him. The photos are gorgeous, and Bobby looks like a worthy pup. The title of your blog post caught my eye–we have nothing but Bobs and Bobbys at our house, but the two-legged kind, with no sisters. Enjoy your beautiful Bobby.
Oh, those meltingly beautiful eyes! I can’t imagine how you resisted taking the entire litter!
Adorable!
With the right intro and some gentling …. our older dogs take to pups really well and the older dogs train the pup for you. Really sweet to see the pup cuddled up on top of the older dog too. Enjoy warm puppy kisses from both of them.
So freakin’ sweet!!!!:)
Beautiful puppies (who doesn’t love puppies) and fabulous photos.
I may just come back and gaze at this blog post every day for the next forever. ADORABLE! xxx
Me too!
Do not think that we would ever tire of photos of Bruce and Bobby.
Oh Bruce! You are going to have a little brother! That will be big fun! Wish you and Kate and Tom a wonderful puppy time! Hope to see a lot of pictures!

what a happy time you will have
Oh my. I spent last weekend in a home that had 2 4-month old puppies and now here’s Bobby to further tempt me. What an enormous bundle of cuteness! I believe that resistance is futile.
Noting better than a puppy to bring on continuous smiles. I hope Bruce is accepting. Now you have me thinking…my boy Max needs a pal. hmmm
Simply wonderful news! Bobby is adorable!
I will be looking forward to hearing about Bobby’s exploits, from Bruce, of course. Congrats on the new addition.
oh, he looks so adorable. How did you manage to choose only him and not all of his sisters, too? He is going to miss them! Bruce has no idea what is in store for him, does he?
Oh what wonderful puppies!! If I were Bruce I’d get lots of rest before Bobby comes to stay. Love them both❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aww! Congratulations!!!!
SO jealous!!! Dogs are the BEST, and Bobby looks exceptional!
Congratulations! I’d love to roll around on a lawn with a bunch of puppies right now . . . but will happily pet my oldster dog (15 years) and look at these charming pictures instead.
So beautiful photos of Bobby and his sisters.
Awhh!

The knitting stuff is all fine, but puppy pics…? Yes, oh my yes!
Such beautiful and healthy pups, gorgeous photos. Wishing you all much happiness with Bobby (black labs are just the best!)
The photos of Bobby and his siblings are simply wonderful. He is such a lucky boy. And, you, Tom and Bruce are lucky as well. Keep the photos of Bobby coming.
Oh! Oh! Oh! Best photos ever…other than of Bruce, of course….Bruce can be “Big Brother” and teach Bobby everything he knows. Congratulations.
Absolutely adorable……don’t you want them all, I think I would be leaving with one in every pocket!! :)
So sweet, can’t wait for the adventures!!
And they could name the others Billy and Wally, so as to have not only Robert Bruce but also William Wallace.
How sweet . . . have a ton of fun with your new addition. Loved the puppy pictures.
