Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone who left a comment on the last post, or who wrote to me personally. I’ve now got lots of food for thought! We are (fanfare!) in the final stages of producing the Inspired by Islay book (which will go to the printer this week) and I am now looking forward to some really focused reading and writing time over the coming months.

This image is a composite of nine photographs which Tom took of the same daffodil over 9 days, in exactly the same position and lighting conditions. I like the latter stages of fading particularly, but am concerned that the next experiment may involve a banana, which does not decay quite so pleasantly.

    I love the photograph of the daffodils. If Tom does decide to do a sequence with bananas I suggest you use 3 of them. Here is a recipe that would be a great way to use them so you don’t have to throw them away (yes- even when the skin is all black!)
    COCONUT BANANA BREAD
    3 ripe bananas – the riper the better
    5 medium or 4 large egg
    4 pitted dates mashed – finely chopped worked okay for me
    2 tsp vanilla extract
    60 ml/ 55g coconut oil, melted
    1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
    2tsp baking powder
    70g organic coconut flour
    2 tbsp chia seeds
    I think it would taste great with some chopped pecans or walnuts

    Preheat oven to 180 C/ 160 C fan
    Put all the ingredients in a food processor and mix until combined.
    Place in a lined 2lb loaf tin and cook for approx 50 mins or until skewer comes out clean and top is golden brown
    Cool before serving but lovely when still warm and with coconut yogurt

    I kept in the fridge once cooled

    Tell Tom I love the fading daff. I have been watching some tulips fading in my bedroom, a very chilly unheated room, and am in awe of the delicate silky quality of the petals as they fade away. Beautiful.

    Never a lady to shy away from hard work. I think your next book will be a challenge for you but it will inform and inspire its readers.
    By the way, I’m sure Tom could make a rotting banana artful!!

    Love Tom’s photographs. One arrived in our mail yesterday; must have spent some time going through Customs. But it arrived safely; a gift for my husband’s birthday. I have created several drawings of drying daffodils. I agree; they are most beautiful as they age. Aren’t we all?

    Ok, I’ve not been to Scotland and I don’t sign up for social networking sites, but I spied a photo on your Instagram that intrigues me. Sorry for this stupid question, but what kind of beast is that (no, not you Bruce, I already know what you are!) — the other big dark hairy one with the amazing horns. So gorgeous and statuesque!

    Adore daffodils always.. Have many daffodils growing in my garden. They are my very favorite spring flower. Tom’s photo collage is great and shows them in a unique way.

    Hi Kate….lol, lol, yes say no to the banana…interesting study..Tom is so into his photography now eh ?…on the book you are planning to write….I think support, and a friend to inject laughter and reality into the situation is important in recovery…objectivity and reality is often lost when you are not well, and bringing you back to ground , helps to refocus , and you can then say …okay try again , like putting up the blind to let in the sun…cheers and best wishes with your book and the coming out of Islay….pat j
