join the dots!

Leeds Postcards)

Just a little pre-election cheer for those of us who will not be voting for the old Etonian and his disastrous Do-It-Yourself plans for public services. Tomorrow will be the first election that I’ve not stayed up all night to watch the votes come in for. The fatigue means I generally have to turn in before 10, and perhaps its just as well. . .

  1. I want to add that to my postcard collection!

  2. I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on Edinburgh, kate. We’re over half FPTP so still not particularly representative… My main concern right now is those people unable to vote due to polling station queues. How utterly appalling!

  3. genius! thanks for making me smile, the whole election thing is looking rather depressing at the moment

  4. What a great way to start the day!

  5. I’m scheduling an extra long afternoon nap, so I can manage at least a few of the first results. I feel your pain about being too tired to stay up! I’m fascinated with the result of this, though, as they say, whoever you vote for, the government gets in.

At least you get some additional input through the Scottish Parliament. Here in Bristol we’ve only got Westminster to rely on. Shudder.

If anyone is feeling depressed about their vote being pointless, take a look at tacticalvoting.org

  7. Perhaps we could knit Dave and George shaped straight jackets and consign them to somewhere appropiate…. too late now I’m (very) afraid.

It’s said that Cameron wants change…we say give him 30p and tell him to f!*k off!

When the picture first popped up my heat sank to my boots – surely you weren’t a fan of this creep and his mates?!
    Pheweee.
I can’t vote as I am in France and didn’t apply for a postal vote in time, duh, but Hubby is on the ferry right now hot-footing it back to do his bit!
All best wishes to you, hope you are having a good day.

  10. Hee, best laugh i’ve had all day! Thanks for saving me from getting too depressed about state of nation, i plan on watching as much as I can bear, then hibernating until 2015 with gin for company! Lx ps would very much like a George card too

Ah! Ah! I’m with you Kate!
Perhaps you can find a sort of solace walking in my shoes … I’m an italian woman and my party lost last election and that … (I don’t know the english word) of Mr. Berlusconi won! Anyway let’s cross the fingers!

  12. Fab !
I’m sincerely hoping that my worst nightmare doesn’t come true.

  13. Haha! Brilliant!

  14. In the US I can sorta kinda understand that ordinary people might fall for the economic theories of the rich: “Maybe I will be rich someday and then I will benefit from the low/no taxes that the rich pay.” After all, the US is the Land of Opportunity, yada yada, anybody can make it with hard work and determination, yada yada. But in the UK? Nah…

::casting an imaginary vote against the Tories here::

  15. Like it:)

The Tories are promising change. Except they can’t even change their database… I’ve phoned them twice telling them I’m not married and would they please stop sending me letters calling me Mrs. I’ve had three things through the door today addressed to “Mrs” from the Tories. Oh well I suppose I’d rather they wasted their money annoying me rather than on potentially impressionable people.

I do enjoy being in a marginal constrituency though (Edinburgh South), apparently my vote actually counts, huzzah (and there is no way the conservatives are getting it).

  16. I will happily join you in scribbling out David Cameron’s smug face and all the anti public-service policies of the Tories.

  17. As one who suffered through the “W” years in the U.S., you have my sympathy with the possible/likely results of your upcoming election.

Ah the transparent sausage himself (yes, my view is coloured by Steve Bell). I work in the NHS, and I am so tense about what Friday will bring. Can’t wait to exercise my democratic right tomorrow.

  19. That is hilarious! Do they make a Canadian edition?

Hope the vote goes well – I have been following a little of the press coverage but not living there, I only get snippets of what’s really going on.

Why are politicians so scary looking?

He is the shiniest person I’ve ever seen! There is no good result for Friday morning. They’re all the same. If there was a box for NONE OF THE ABOVE that would definitely be the one I’d choose. As it is, I’m pretty certain my vote will have no effect on the result in my constituency. I shall trot down to the station and make a cross though. Depressing!

Using an imaginary big FAT marker to join the dots. I won’t be staying up either, but am dreading getting up friday morning :(

  23. Brilliant! Yes, I’d love to see one for George too….

  24. Great – is there one for a certain prospective Chancellor too?

If only it was a simple as scrubbing out his smug mug! They have a scarily good chance of winning the seat where we live. Let’s hope my vote can make a difference.

Snort! Watching the election from afar has been very interesting. Good luck, you guys …

  27. Brilliant! I’m with you on this one. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is that I’m not allowed to vote in this country!
    Take care, L

  28. Good luck! I had fun mentally doing the connect-the-dots. Having listened to BBC world in the past three weeks, I can only begin to share your feelings. Fingers crossed, nonetheless.

  29. Hilarious! Thanks Kate.

Thank you! Laughing at stuff like this helps temporarily to distract me from my visceral fear that that awful lot will actually get their pampered hands on the reins of power tomorrow.

  33. Hee! Although you should make sure not to repeat this diagram on the voting ballot as I think that counts as a spoiled paper.

I’m with you on this one, and will take some pleasure in completing your dot to dot postcard!

On another note, where DID you find the Esronian lace books you mentioned in the previous post?

All the best for a continued recovery.

Reminds me of the rather beautiful work by Maurizio Anzeri featured in the current issue of Crafts magazine. But I suspect that even he couldn’t make Cameron look any less oily. I did my PhD in a politics department and am fairly nerdy about elections but I have to admit that since years of sleep deprivation when my children were young (and now the continued need to have their packed lunches ready in the morning)I have failed in recent years to make it much past the exit polls. But a bit like a New Year’s resolution every year I swear that this time I will stay up. My two youngest love elections because their school is used as a polling station!
