We were excited. My Ma had given us a basket of treats, chief among which were some KAKE BRAND moulds, exactly the same as those we had when I was a kid. She found them on ebay (where she finds everything), complete with their original foil wrappings and instructions.

I cleaned the moulds.

  1. I’ve never seen these before. We’ve been enjoying duck eggs at our house, no kidding!!

  2. Those standards are the ones I aspire too. Them grown-up more-perfect-than-perfect standards are killing me. Your egg looks awesome!

  3. A masterpiece! I love the chicken plate.

Making your own Easter eggs is a fabulous idea! (I love the chicken-themed plate too).

    That’s so sweet!

  7. Hooray for Ebay!

  8. Lucky Tom. Those crackly looking eggs are great because you can pace yourself by breaking a bit off at a time. Mmmm.

  9. I think the only word is ‘cute’ ….

Great egg! And I love that line of little dangling chicks in the first photo.
(Also, congratulations on your ten year anniversary! :)

  11. Those look so cool….wish I’d thought of that…next year!

  12. Intention is sometimes more important than perfection. :) ESPECIALLY when creating a perishable. Very few things are too ugly to eat!

  13. Looks like that was a LOT of fun!

  14. Your exacting standards are marvellous. Delight and fun leap from your gloopy, enthusiastic icing-writing! It is a work of genius.

  15. Brilliant! I bet they were good to eat too!

  16. Oh they are gorgeous – we had those too when I was little. My mum used to let us buy a quarter of sweets from the local sweet shop to put inside too. Yummmm
