Hiya! It is I, Bruce!
As we all know, one of the most confusing things about living with humans is that the sounds they make (which they call words) can sometimes have several meanings. Today I am here to help you, my dog friends, by clarifying the double-meaning of one of these confusing sounds – and that sound is BALL.
Now, the first and most important meaning of this sound is the spherical object, which smells Very Good, which humans throw about, and which dogs catch and fetch, or find, or chew, or sometimes eat. All dogs love BALL and every dog knows that BALL is lots of fun. Strangely, humans seem to understand this, as this is what they have chosen to suggest in the second meaning of the sound. That is, in human speak, if you are HAVING A BALL this does not mean that you have mistakenly swallowed BALL, but that you are instead having lots of FUN (speaking personally, I think that one can actually have a BALL by chewing up and swallowing BALL, but that is a mere aside).
At the moment it is very cold and white here. This is weather I really like because it often means that I am able to HAVE A BALL and PLAY WITH BALL. . . and sometimes even swallow BALL all at the same time. I shall now demonstrate how it is possible to effectively combine all human meanings of the sound BALL – by HAVING A SNOW BALL.
See how much fun HAVING A SNOW BALL is?
Humans throw the SNOW BALL for dog, but they are not engaged in the important business of leaping after it, and catching it.
But though the humans do no leaping, they seem to do a lot of laughing, which to me suggests that they are having their own kind of SNOW BALL too.
Heres hoping that you and your humans, like me, enjoy very many SNOW BALLS this winter
See you soon, love Bruce x
Lovely shots of your dog having fun and very funny dogologue.

After shoveling snow away today for our short dog to do her business (It’s blizzardingx), it was a great treat to stumble on this blog of a canine enjoying the white stuff. The word which blots out all else for our white fuzz ball is “squirrel.”

Snow! I am Alina the English Cocker Spaniel, also black – and I can give myself a whole petticoat of snowballs when the fresh snow sticks to my silky fur… it does make chasing snowballs a bit difficult, tho’, and I have to go innthe dreaded shower to thaw. My name for a ball is ‘Balli’ because I’m Swiss-speaking 🤗❄️❄️❄️

Hi Bruce, I’m Paisley, a labradoodle from Canada (my dad is from Scotland though so that’s how I got my name). My humans haven’t thrown snowballs for me yet, but I found a great way to Be a Ball. Dive headfirst into snow and leave head buried for a moment, lift head and roll around, and then if you have nice thick curly hair like me, you will Be a Snowball! So much fun!

Bruce looks so much like my little black lab Echo (though my photography skills are no match; it’s such a challenge with a black dog!) It’s been so cold that our snow has been too fluffy to clump into satisfying snowballs yet, but I’ll have to try this trick out when it warms up a bit. I’m sure she’ll enjoy literally having a ball just as much as Bruce!

In France, when addressing their dogs, some people sometimes call the ball (“balle” in French) a “baballe”… I wonder what our four paws friends think of us when we speak to them like that ;-)

Bruce, you are a true snow dog. Did you know you could swim in snow, too? Here in way north Michigan, the snow would be up to your tummy. You could belly-flop into the snow just like you do in the loch. Merry Christmas to you Bruce. May there be many Balls to play with and maybe even a Glove in your Christmas stocking.

Jeez Mate! What is that stuff never seen it before? Is it hot? Is it cold? Most of all I want some too…better than being outside with 10,000 march flies buzzing around my tail…but hold on! I found a lizard. Yes, a lizard with a blue tongue, which hissed at me and I barked and barked and barked. Now…beat that! Love Woody

Hello Bruce, It is I, Murphy. My human has read me your posts since we were both puppies. Your insights help her understand us, her two doggy companions, much better. Not expecting many snowballs, here in Texas….. but I am always hopeful. Until then, my sister Leia and I must be content with rubber balls and sticks. Hope to hear about your continuing adventures, soon!🐶
