Those of you who have subscribed to the Seven Skeins Club will shortly be receiving an email with some welcome information. If you are a club member and have not received our welcome email by Thursday, please contact us at infoATkatedaviesdesigns.com so that we can amend your details.
The club patterns have been carefully planned to make the most of your seven skeins. The amount of yarn used in each project has been calculated by gauge, yardage and weight, and you’ll note that the welcome information includes an instruction to weigh your skeins before commencing the first pattern. It’s really important you do this now (and indeed keep weighing your yarn after each project is completed) and you’ll probably get rather tired of me instructing you to Weigh Your Skeins. . . but to ensure you never run out of yarn and to help you make choices about which shades to use, and which patterns to knit Jen and Jim (my wizardy tech editors) have devised a superbly nifty calculator.
To use the calculator:
You will need to have a recent version of Microsoft Excel.
Download the calculator here:
Seven Skeins club yarn calculator
Enter an X in the box next to your chosen main colour (MC) shade, your chosen contrast colour (CC) shade, and your chosen weekly project.
Remember to only choose one project per week.
The calculator will then magically tell you how much yarn you will use and how much of each shade remains!
Due to the volume of email we are currently receiving, we are unable to provide any technical support for the yarn calculator and have made it available for your information and assistance only.
Enjoy!

HI Kate, still waiting for my yarn as it did not quite make it to NH before my mail got forwarded. I need to change my address before the December post goes out and the link above is not working ( did get the excel to work however! and got a scale!) anyway, can you let me know how to change the address when you get a chance? Thanks. So excited to get my yarn soon!!!

I love the aspect of being a test group, good idea to involve your supporters. By the way the yarn is lovely, intrigued by the effect of different dyes and saturations on the feel of the yarn. The “Squall” selection feels decidedly different from the other undyed selection. Am I correct that there is a difference in the breed used to obtain the darker fleece? If so, it is glorious, I knit a small swatch this morning after having weighed and wound all 7. It knits up beautifully and I threw in a small cable and the definition was great. Looking forward to the New Year. Congratulations thus far.

I have weighed my yarn as instructed, and downloaded the ‘calculator ‘ to the Apple version of Excel, Numbers. Hope it all works! ( not really sure where all this is leading, but following it all, dutifully). Await further instructions! 😜

Just in case anyone has the same issue … right click on the link to download the calculator and save (mine saved in my downloads folder), then open Excel and do a File … Open to open the file. I use Excel 2010 and have had a problem opening .xlsx files – I think are files created in a newer version than mine: they won’t open directly from the link and Excel tells you its stopped working. Do the right click save thing instead and all is well.

Now that is innovative and really COOL/CLEVER. BUT, what about us who, at this time, cannot buy the yarns as much as we’d like to? I am assuming there will be a book, MUST have that book. Thank you.
