Finally! A break in the weather. It is beginning to feel vaguely Spring-like at last.
Primroses! Things in bloom on my doorstep again!
Bruce and I have been making the most of the weather on our daily walks.
You can see the water levels of Loch Lomond are rather high – a result of the near-biblical rain we’ve been having of late.
One of my greatest pleasures on my walks is observing the way the weather (of which there is a lot out here) transforms familiar objects. The light, for example, is different every single day. This tree (a favourite) looks different each time I see it. Yesterday it was all but submerged.
Tom has been making the most of the weather too – running the Deeside Way – a 33 mile race in preparation for the Highland Fling. I rather like the lo-fi jam-jar lid ‘medal’. 4 hours 19 minutes! Well done, Tom!
I had hoped to show you some knitting today – but there is honestly not much to see. For the past few weeks I have been working on a garment with an, um, “atypical” construction. Today I had to concede that despite my best efforts it really hasn’t worked out. Now, if you were ever in need of a tightly-fitting woolly superhero outfit that sits on the bias, then what I have created would suit you rather well. Sadly, though, this wasn’t quite the look I was after. Time to rip it out and start again!

How I love your walking photos! They give me hope that spring just might come here to Atlantic Canada. Bruce is such a doll! Does he ever get his doggy toys mixed up with your knitting balls? Zora, my 12 yr old lab thought my ball of Rowen was her Kong in my knitting pot that sits on the floor next to my knitting chair. She stuffed her nose in, grabbed the ball and took off for a wonderful game of “keep away” or “you can’t catch me,” thus ripping the knitting from my hands. It was lively aright, with needles clacking on the floor as she dodged my every attempt. I was reduced to offering a tidbit of cheese just to get my knitting back. To be fair, Kong was under my knitting chair, and the ball of yarn did look like a tennis ball due to ripping and rewinding. Still, my poor Rowen ball of yarn! I think all that energy will be diverted once we are able to go for long walks again.

Lovely pictures. And I do enjoy seeing your wonderful dog. We just lost our labrador retriever. It’s sad, but seeing another one happily enjoying life feels good. Knitting, nature and good friends (including dogs) – that’s life!

I think I really could use a tightly fitting wooly superhero outfit that sits on the bias. With a cape. And boots. With a big W on it…for Winter Woman, since ours seems to be about 6 months long. But I’ll settle for knitting one of your sweaters…all beautiful.

We’re having (another) snow storm during our historically snowy winter here in Maine. The lovely blue sky in your pictures is inspiring. Back I go to knitting my to-be-felted mittens for my husband, faithful snowblower operator!

Kate, I just want to say that I love your blog! You have beautiful photography on here that makes me want to live in Scotland, and your designs are among my all-time favorites.
I also love that you interact with your fans; some ‘big time’ designers seem to be reclusive, simply putting out patterns and never letting their followers get to know them; I think there is a lot lost on both ends when that is the case.
By the way, that first picture of Loch Lomond is really lovely; the lighting is perfect. I’ll get there one day! (fingers crossed)

This whole post was yummy, from starting with sweet Bruce, to the lovely primroses (what a spectacle to have right outside your door!), to the amazing landscape you get to see daily. Reminded me of the few brief times I’ve been to your part of the world and suggests I need a plan to visit again! Love the jam-jar medal too- very fun. Oh Bruce. Tom, way to go! Lovely photos, I just can’t wait to get to Scotland one of these years. Sorry you had to rip, but good for you for letting it go, that can be so tough! Happy spring! It’s very early for it here, (like a month) but we are enjoying remarkably nice weather ourselves! No complaints!

The change of seasons can be so treacherous I find – one minute fine, the next minute cold – that it is hard to know how to dress. Even so, I think those people walking round town in tee shirts may be a little bit “previous”.
Thanks so much for early delivery of the seagull ribbon – for a seaside-loving friend’s birthday and for which she expressed much joy.

The ripping out is not a bad thing. Creativity involves risk, failure and success. Now Kate knows that bias skinny superheroes are not what she wants, but she will not be dismayed. I really like her spirit and drive.

As always, it thrills me to see pictures of the magnificent scenery in your part of the world. Likewise it encourages me greatly to hear of even the most adept and gifted knitters not always achieving the results they were seeking. It keeps me persevering Love to Bruce and all! ;)

Ahhh, what a cutie. He’s almost out of that puppy stage; better enjoy it now! Labs tend to get a bit sedantary as they age. Love the color of your “superhero” yarn, I’m sure you’ll figure out what it needs to become.

Its slightly encouraging – for us, if perhaps not for you – that even a great designer like yourself can have her own disasters. It makes me feel there is hope for the rest of us. I ma on a hugely complicated knit at the moment – Meg Swansen’s Giant Latvian Mitt Cardigan – which has very scant instructions. Sitting awaiting the end of this marathon is your carousel tea cosy. I cannot wait to start it!!

I love seeing pictures of your walks! Spring weather is always interesting to see what pops up from the earth after months of hibernation! And you never know, there might be a superhero out there that needs both the warmth of wool and the stretchiness of being on a bias to help move as he or she defends the world from evil :P
