Twenty two is . . .
. . . the circumference in inches of my new millinery block. I have been on the look out for one of these for a while and am extremely pleased to have finally found one. Score! Clearly I now need to make a hat for it.
The past few days have held their frustrations, but the fog of fatigue is finally lifting, and now the weekend is shaping up very nicely. Tomorrow I intend to write a couple of tutorials about steeking, so I will be back then to cut up this swatch with you. Hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Now, if I hadn’t seen that here I’m sure I wouldn’t have known what it was for. And I make and block hats myself. lol Sometimes a girl needs to be hit over the head with a thing to “get it”.

I tried to find the translation for the word “steek” or “steeking” into Dutch or swedish or whatever language, but cannot find it ;-( Oh and I’m happy for yoy, fog is disappearing again.

Glad to hear your fatigue is lifting. :) I’ve been fighting it for different reasons than you but have also found it extremely frustrating. This week has been better!
I can’t wait for your tutorial. I’ve had your Ram and Yowes sitting for about a month waiting to be steeked and am slowly working myself up to it. My first steek! Any help you can give would be appreciated!!! LOL. I feel so silly.

I love the demilitarization of the block with flowers and can’t wait for the pattern. I have been inspired by your sheep blanket and paper dolls to try Fair Isle. I just came in from buying Alice Starmore’s “Book of Fair Isle Knitting”. Feeling a bit overwhelmed after a brief look I had just decided it was above my skill level. I think I will wait for the flowers to try them as a first project. They are lovely and look far more manageable.

I’ve never tried a steek, either. Perhaps the fear is the first cut! I did get 7 two oz. each bundles of each of the Shetland colors to spin and then turn into your lovely sheepy hat.

It must be the season for them! I found a millinary head/block last week, after years of looking for one!!! The shop also had a very strange metal one that is supposed to heat the hat to block it… Has anybody ever tried one? Nobody else wants it, so who knows, I might be able to get it cheap! :-)

ooh yes please to the steeking tutorial! I am looking at several wheels of lopi intended for my Freya cardi – made with a whacking great steek down the front. Gulp! You will definitely be a help. Glad the fatigue is fading…. beautiful swatch….. and lookimg forward to seeing the hats! xx
