At last! I have released Deco! Clearly, I am behind the times in more ways than one – it seems that the Futurists came up with the idea of mirroring skyscrapers on garments long before me:

The more I write up my designs, the more obsessed I become with developing an economy of instruction. The hallmark of the pattern-writing of the designers I most admire – Gudrun springs immediately to mind – is clarity and brevity. I do hope that I’ve achieved that here, and that knitters enjoy the process, as well as the finished result, of their Decos (would you like to see Mel’s recently completed version? How nice is that ribbon trim?)

My mother, active member of the knitting community (should I say the needle sisterhood ?) put me me in the loop of your work. First found I Deco lovely, then fell I in love with the story of this cardigan. This is the perfect match between inspiration and eccentricity, I just love it ! The thing will be to get the virtual Chrysler hat out of my head when wearing it. Thank you for this moment reading you !

Thanks! I was looking for my next knit last night as I thunder towards completing my first garment since my hand op, and that will do very nicely indeed, will zoom over to Rav now. I’ve got just the right buttons in mind, too.
(I’ve always loved that photograph of the architects in fancy dress – maybe this should have an accompanying hat, inspired by them? Or then again maybe not…)

Lovely, classic, just like Art Deco. I work in an Art Deco ‘skyscraper’ of 18 stories, and never tire of looking at the design work. I struggle with the the clarity/brevity concerns with pattern writing. Sometimes, more words are just confusing. Off to purchase Deco and see how your work towards a solution is going. Plus, I have the perfect yarn for this.

I love this cardigan pattern, and the ribbon reminds me of the Pringle of Scotland cardigans, although theirs were plain grosgrain, and they are exspensive here.

I’ve got a query as to what you mean by robust yarn? Would something like merino or alpaca or cashmere not be robust enough? Or is it more that the yarn needs to be spun woolen with high twist. Could you recommend a more readily available substitue for your lovely Corriedale?

“Oh, WOW!” was my response when I saw the picture of the sweater. Now, that’s my kind of style. I may have to add an inch or two as I’m tall. However, I’ve noticed that girls are taller these days so does that make me ‘average’?

I went right over to Ravelry and purchased Deco–I’ve been waiting! Wish I could tell you that you’d see a finished product from me, but I’m notorious for not finishing anything…but I love art deco, and loved your sweater from the first time you shared it.
