Like the rest of our locale, we’ve been out playing in the distinctly unseasonal snow. (Do meteorologists attribute this particular cold snap to the volcano? And what I want to know is: where’s the revolution?). So far, I’ve not done too badly in the white stuff: I have some super new micro-crampons, which I am hoping will help me to retain my balance even when the pavements turn into ice rinks. We shall see.
Meanwhile, indoors, something fishy is blocking.
. . . that’s your lot for now.
“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” and also Bruce looks so trim and fit from all the walking. Then that song came to mind from that show? “You shall have a fishy on a little dishy, when the boat comes in!..”:-)

Fingers crossed that the revolution soon appears but hurrah for scampering in snow. I love the idea of mini-crampons and the fishes look amazing colourwise! xx

What lovely photos! I’m very curious about your micro crampons; I really could use a good pair given my own balance issues on icy surfaces.
I’m so intrigued by the fishy something…can’t wait to see more!
(By the way, for some reason I can’t read your blog using Chrome as my browser; it refuses to load the page. I don’t know why this is, and it’s not a big hassle to open up a different browser window to visit your blog, but I just thought I’d let you know.)

My husband ponders the weather regularly and was only remarking this morning how mild our spring was – we have only a few days left before Summer hits us and we’ve had very few 30 degree days even though we live in semi-tropical Brisvegas. Your snow looks fab. I feel ridiculous knitting sometimes down here in the southern hemisphere – I really should be making grass skirts rather than woolly jumpers!!

Lovely snow photos! I’d love to know what your micro crampons are… I have mobility problems and use yak traks when it’s slippy, but they are not perfect… just wondered if there is something even better out there that I don’t know about!

Pam, I’ve got a pair of kahtoola microspikes and really recommend them. They are more than twice the price of the yaktrax, but much more robust, I think (they are used by ice runners). I feel completely safe with them on my boots – it is impossible to slide. Most reassuring.

Hi Kate – unbeknown to me, my husband ordered a pair of kahtoola microspikes for me! They were waiting for me when I got home from work tonight, so I haven’t tried them out yet, but they certainly look very robust – in fact, I wouldn’t like to fall out with someone who was wearing a pair!!

Oh I’m quite jealous of the snow! My friend in Edinburgh took a lovely video of the snow from above (he’s a model airplane enthusiast and has a tiny camera mounted to one of his planes!) and although it’s quite wobbly it’s neat to see the same stuff from the air: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYwCjz45UcA
The fishiness looks delightfully warm and heathery, I’m looking forward to the reveal :)

Beautiful photos! We’ve had some unseasonable cold and snow in Vancouver too, attributed to la nina.

Oh I looooove the snow. Luckily, we’re never in a shortage around here in Canada.
I’m dying to see more of your fishy knit. It looks to me like a beautiful tapestry of heathery, shetlandy, fair-isly goodness. AS Hebridean 2-ply perhaps (methinks I spot some Pebble Beach and Solan Goose in there)? In any case, I’m loving the colours and textures!

My Tantallon is blocking just now– the pattern looks like a mandala stretched over a plate. I may choose to run some elastic thread into the brim, if it proves to fit more loosely than I’d like, but it’s a beauty.

Love the photos of Bruce – he is such a handsome dog! I like the idea of crampons – I have a fear of slipping and falling in the snow and ice. We had a lot more snow overnight, but everywhere is dripping at the moment. I’m looking forward to the ‘reveal”!!

Our snow is thin and you can see the grass through it… We got it here in Ontario the same day it fell in Scotland. My sister-in-law keeps me posted when it arrives… an email arrives that just says “Snow”. I love the strength of Scotland, it’s people and it’s snow. It might just be me and my yearning for home but I think your snow looks better. Hope the fishy thingy is to warm your tootsies, lid, rack of neck or fingertips…you always look so put together even for this unexpected weather. I think I will post some “Canadian winter dress” pictures once we get into it this year,LOL.

I haven’t heard anything about a correlation with the volcano (though that would be interesting), only about the North Atlantic Oscillation still being in a negative phase since the previous winter. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Atlantic_oscillation)

Ah, snow. Welcome to our world. It is pretty, and I would imagine delightful if you weren’t looking ahead to another 4 months of the stuff, with super cold weather. Perhaps you and Tom would like to house swap with us for a season? ;)
Can’t wait to see the garment!

Many factors are needed for a revolution… volcano, political injustice, tyranny, an alliance between the different kinds of people who suffer from said injustice, leaders… It does seem many of them are reunited now, so who knows ?

You are so smart to get crampons – I have to do that this year. In Quebec we have had freezing rain, snow, rain, sun and more snow in the last 48 hours. Having no balance anyway, I tend to walk like a penguin in a state of perpetual fear in the winter! I am really looking forward to the fishy thingy – something small perhaps?

We heard about the snow over there. It looks pretty and Bruce seems to enjoy it. We have a few day of warmth, so our snow will melt a bit, but more is in the forecast. Enjoy!

Whatever that fishy is, it looks good enough to eat (with some chips, perhaps?)
I finally got what I think might be proper winter boots – or at least proper enough; it hasn’t quite snowed here in Detroit yet, but I almost want it to, so I can try them out.
