away . . . to Iceland

lopi1

It has been an intensely busy few weeks around here, and I’m really rather looking forward to spending a few days away . . . in Iceland! I have just completed the second of two new designs for my forthcoming YOKES! book, and Mel and I are very excited to have the opportunity to photograph them in the country where their wool was raised.

You know, it is the first time I have designed or indeed knit with Lopi . . .seriously, what have I been doing all these years? So light, so airy, such rich and saturated colours, but so gloriously woolly and so very warm! I now have an intense desire to knit forever with the stuff, and the minute I bound off a YOKE on Friday evening, found myself casting on a random hat to match.

Mel and I have a great trip planned, and I’ll be sure to tell you all about it when we return.

And some housekeeping: I won’t be available to answer queries this week, and any orders placed in the shop from today will be shipped on or after April 7th.

Bless bless!

Map of Shetland Islands 1906

I’m packing my bags for a trip to Shetland! Its been a while, and I’m itching to be back. I’m particularly excited this time, as I’m about to begin a new research project. Here’s a hint of the kinds of things I’ll be exploring. . . .

These are details from a recent vintage find on Ebay with which I’m very pleased, (particularly as it fits me!) Like all vintage hand-knits, the construction of this garment has a story to tell . . . I’ll perhaps say more about it when I return.

I’ll be away for a week, so won’t be able to process any trade orders, or answer any email queries until after the 19th.

See you very soon!

preparations

I am not one for cleaning and tidying, but I rather enjoy preparing the campervan for a trip away. Probably the best part of this ritual is re-stocking the van’s small ‘library’ with appropriate maps, guides, and reading material.

Here’s an interesting read . . .

. . . with wonderful endpapers.

Ursula Venables plays an integral role in one of my current projects, and I’ll say more about her another time . . .

We are, of course, off to Shetland, where Tom will be behind the camera, and I shall be throwing umpteen shapes, wearing the garments from my new collection! I am very pleased with how everything is shaping up, and look forward to telling you all about it in due course.

More on our return!
